Why No, I did not join the cult of MAC, and won't be doing so.

Soooo..... I've never joined the cult of MAC cosmetics.  I don't know, I just never saw a need to try anything.... nothing seemed that revolutionary or captured my interest.  Recently I was given a $30 gift card to MAC.  Enough to try a couple of products... so I head to the store.

I did have one MAC lipstick that is pretty, but doesn't make me want to proclaim it as OMG AMAZING.  It's a nice decent lipstick in a color that was hard to find at the time (Orchid).  Now every line has the exact purple-y color I was searching for... go figure.  MAC's wasn't exactly what I wanted, but closer than anyone else at the time.  It's just a regular lipstick... it does smell nice though.
So fast forward to today... I ended up purchasing a DazzleGlass lip gloss in Date Night and a Pearlglide Intense eyeliner in Industrial....

Meh.

The DazzleGlass is a really pretty color.  Is it anything unique?  Not really... I had something pretty similar in my drawer already... but it is a really pretty color.... but I HATE THIS GLOSS.  This is the thickest, stickiest gloss I've ever used.  That title used to belong to Stilla Lip Glaze (I think they redid the formulation and it isn't so bad now... but I can't bring myself to take a chance on it again!).  This stuff easily dethrones Stilla in the "goopiest crap to put on your lips" title.  I'm wearing it because it is pretty, and it stays on well for lip gloss... (the stuff is so sticky how could it not stay on well?) but I can't get past how gross it makes my lips feel.  I know some people who LOVE sticky goopy lips.  I am not that person.  SO where I put it on before work (just so I can use it and get rid of it) I find myself wiping it off before I complete my commute.

The Pearlglide eyeliner is nice... again nothing revolutionary.  If you know Urban Decay's eyeliners, then you are familiar with the formula.  Most lines have a UD type eyeliner now, but what sets UD apart is the amazing colors they offer.  So, yea, in my opinion it's hard to compete with UD and all their amazing colors.  If I need something basic I'll go for a cheaper option... but my favorite eyeliners are all UD.  MAC's eyeliner formula goes on smooth and creamy.  It blends easily until it sets (work fast, it sets quick!!) and it lasts until you take it off.  Industrial is a rather lovely color, and actually a little unique.  I would call Industrial a duochrome.  It is a blue/lavender combo.  The blue is the same color as your favorite pair of faded blue jeans... a really lovely blue.  Get it in the right light, and it is lavender.  I'll admit, I like this one.  It is a couple bucks cheaper than UD, but I believe it is also smaller.  Don't hold me to that, I'm working off my old lady memory here.   So yes, this eyeliner gets a thumbs up.  Not a unique formula, but a unique color.  So, we are 1 for 2 here.

You all know that right now, I'm obsessed with Cobalt.  Yes, today I have cobalt toenails AND shoes.  Yep.  It's how I roll.  (Don't mock my gnarly feet, it is the end of the work day!!)

I saw on a Makeup Geek product haul video a MAC Fluidline eyeliner in the most perfect cobalt shade...  That is what I actually wanted to use my GC for, but of course the store didn't have it... so I ordered it.  I could not wait to try it.  I keep hearing how Fluidline is the holy grail of gel eyeliners.  It came in last night.

Meh.

The color in the pot was so perfect it made me swoon.  I anxiously went to bed so I could wear it to work today.  Well.... the formula was soft and creamy.  A little soft for my taste, but some of my lighter colors in different brands are soft like this.... so I continued.... and it went on.... SHEER.  What the hell?  I had to let it dry and put on a second coat... and if I had time I would have done a third.  And keep in mind here, I'm a pro at liquid/cake/gel/cream eyeliner, and this just was hard to use.  I felt like an amateur, like I did a sloppy job with it.  But maybe I just need to get used to the formula and remember I'm going to have to do multiple coats.   Once I had a couple coats on the color is everything I wanted in a cobalt blue.  I do love it, just hate that I have to put on multiple coats.  so A+ on the color... D- on the sheerness.  It wears great and all that... but, sigh.

So I have now tried 4 different products of MAC, and I don't think I have any urge what so ever to try anything else.  No I haven't tried a foundation or blush or anything like that, but I'm over expensive foundations, blush and mascara.  For my daily foundation I wear either Garnier BB cream for oily skin in Light/Medium or NYX BB cream in natural.  The Garnier product has SPF, the NYX does not.  I'm not sure what one I like better, the jury is out.  I do a light dusting of NYX's compact mineral foundation over that and my skin looks pretty darn great.  I remember the days of getting $50 Chanel foundation (uhg).  Grocery store cosmetic brands have really stepped it up in the past few years.  The products are just as good as department store brands.  Sure you get nicer packaging, but the formula is the same.  (I don't know if this is true, but I heard NYX is MAC's inexpensive brand.  Funny, because I LOVE NYX, and don't really care for MAC).  There, I said it.

Don't get me on my soap box on Mascara's either.  I'm a fan of Maybelline... Right now I'm using Lash Sensational and am really liking it.  If you spend more than 10 bucks on mascara (that you should be throwing away after 3 months, eww... germs) you are a FOOL.  And yes I hate lash extensions and the fiber mascaras.  Both look like poo in my opinion.  The extensions could look nice, but people put them on where they look ridiculous... so I say no.

Crap, I got on my soap box for a minute.  Sorry.

Anywhoo, much like the cult of Crossfit...I'm going to say no the the cult of MAC.  It's just meh.
Kisses!
