NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick Review

Well, I have had a chance to try several shades of NYX’s Liquid Suede lip creams and I will say that in true NYX fashion, this lip product ROCKS.  This is a matte liquid lipstick product with glycerin, avocado oil and olive oil.  This makes the product very comfortable to wear.  My lips don’t feel dried out like with other liquid lip products (I’m looking at you Too Faced Melted).  The applicator is an elongated doe foot, making application easy and precise.  If I had to change one thing I might make the end pointed vs. rounded for an even more precise application on your cupids bow.  But with a little practice, and using the edge of the wand vs. the tip I get a perfect line.  (You all know I HATE Too Faced Melted’s applicator.  If it was for a sheer gloss, the applicator would be great.  But it totally sucks for an opaque lip color.  Yes, I am no fan of Melted.  For the price, the product stinks.  Lots of pretty colors though. )

Once you have applied LS, you have a bit of time to work with it.  It takes a few minutes to “dry down”, so you can blot it if you want a softer color.  I find that my lips are SLIGHTLY tacky if I press them together for up to an hour after initial application.  This isn’t an uncomfortable feeling, and I think makes the color more flexible than other products so that you don’t get the telltale cracking like you do with most matte products.  Like I said above, it is very comfortable to wear.   When it wears off I find that it wears evenly, not in patchy spots like other products that I dislike.  After it wears, I can still smudge the line left around my lips to soften it and give my lips a “stained” look.

The staying power is really nice.  Like most standard long wearing products, oil is going to be the enemy.  If you eat anything that contains oil, the product will come off.  I easily get 4 hours if I don’t eat.  I can’t say that it lasts 8 because I don’t go 8 hours without eating.  But I can see where you would easily get 6 to 8 if you don’t consume anything.  (But who would do that?)

Colors I tried (Clockwise from Top): Orange County (orange), Life’s a Beach (coral), Amethyst (dark purple), Stone Fox (grey), Vintage (Dark pinky brown/burgundy), Soft Spoken (pinky beige), and Cherry Skies (dark blue red).

Life’s a Beach is my least favorite color.  The color itself is nice, but it goes on a little streaky and if you want it to be totally opaque you need two coats.  The other colors go on beautifully.  Stone Fox is actually quite wearable even though it is grey.  Vintage is a beautiful burgundy.  Well, I sort of hate to call it burgundy because it isn’t really a dark goth burgundy.  It is a really nice dark pink/brown.  A  perfect color for fall.  Cherry Skies is a beautiful dark blue red, Amethyst is a vibrant dark purple and Orange County an electric vibrant orange.  Soft spoken is the perfect pinky nude for me.  NYX seems to carry this color across all their lip offerings and I’m very ok with that.  It is a great every day color.  While I didn’t try it, the light purple color, Sway, might have the same issue with streaky-ness as Life’s a Beach because they are both “white based”.  I can’t say for sure, that’s just a guess on my part.

So, NYX knocks it out of the park with this liquid lipstick.  I had a hard time getting my hands on them because they were sold out EVERYWHERE… even online.  My favorite Ulta now has them all in stock since the mad rush to get them is over.  I would love to see NYX branch out with their color offerings like Too Faced Melted has done (the only thing they did right in my opinion).  Some metallic offerings in this formulation would be amazing.  Oh, and these amazing products are only $7.  Inexpensive makeup companies are really stepping up and giving luxury brands a run for their money.  I’m finding that there are very few products that I need to pay the big bucks for anymore.   Go and get you some of these now!  You won't be sorry!
